Refurbishing boat cushions

PVC boat cushions which are a few years old can be made to look new without too much trouble.  It’s a trick I learnt from my car days in the 70s when most cars (that I could afford anyway!) were fitted with PVC seats and there were paint products available for the specific purpose of changing the colour of your seats.

The days of PVC seats are long gone and so is the paint.  However, not to be put off,  I started hunting around for a paint that would do the job.  I found an own-brand B&Q product (cost £11) which is for painting floorboards, so I guessed would be flexible enough to do the job.  Sure enough, the paint is very good for the job.  High opacity (covers well!) and one coat does the job.

Be sure to stipple the paint in to get good coverage in the crevices of the textured PVC fabric.  I used a ½ inch brush for the edges and a 2 inch brush for the larger areas. (Click on any image for a larger view)
