Modifying the double berth on a Jaguar 22

Accommodation on a Jaguar 22 is somewhat cramped at the best of times. To say they are a 5 berth is something of a joke, but they can be quite comfortable for two people - until it’s time to sleep!

The V berth has enough room, but you have to be pretty agile to get in and out and the loo is covered by the base insert rendering it unusable.

The double berth formed by lowering the table is so narrow it really only accommodates one person comfortably.

My solution is to fit a ply base that creates a double ACROSS the boat with plenty of room for two people.  (Click on any image for a larger view)

Supports need to be cut, drilled and varnished
This is the area the new plywood base will fill.
Getting the ply base to be the right shape isn’t easy. I laid on the floor with a pencil and marked the plywood from underneath.
Here are the rear suports held in place with stainless bolts.
The forward support needed screws as the inner keel box is not accessible.
