Replacing a Centaur Galley Sink

The old glassfibre sink in a Centaur is functional and incredibly strong, but originally just had one fold down tap and in appearance is a bit dated.  I changed my sink because I have upgraded a lot of the interior in my Centaur and also wanted to run hot and cold water to the sink. I have fitted an Eberspächer D4 Hydronic water heater (brilliant compact devices) and am also fitting a shower in the Heads.   (Click on any image for a larger view)

The first task is to find a sink that fits! I spent a little while hunting around for second hand caravan sinks but none were really suitable.  Then I came across a SMEV 934 stainless steel sink on eBay - brand new for £40.  Perfect !  Here are the old bits of sink I had to cut away.

The job of cutting out the top of the sink was messy but achievable using a jig saw with special blade for GRP as well as a drill to form a series of holes and then cut through them manually. The remaining edge was smoothed using a belt sander and a powerfile..

Another pic of the area that has been cut away.

This is the sink top (with protective plastic still in place). You can see here where I have cut into the sink top to make provision for the mixer tap.

Finally, the sink complete with very nice mixer tap (£10 on eBay) was fitted in place.  I couldn’t use the supplied fasteners with the sink, so it is “siliconed” into place.
